Spring 2012 Programme
Please find attached the current version of our 2012 Spring Course Programme for the period until April. The programme offers our normal range of courses and refresher training and whilst the programme indicates that most events are full, we still have some instructor dates available and can get others if you have specific needs. Just give us a call if we can help.
Legislation and Standards
We are in the process of organising three events in April to focus on Health & Safety, Employment Legislation, and the recently updated Issue 6 of the BRC Global Standard. Details of these events follow below.
Managing Health & Safety and Risk assessment
Brian Rees will be working with us once again to deliver this on Monday 16th April 2012. The workshop is designed for decision makers and those responsible for Health & Safety within the business and provides both an update of the current legislation and requirements in the morning and moves on to consider site safety awareness and how to practically conduct risk assessments.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
• better understand the Health and Safety legal structure
• relate legislative requirements to own work situation
• conduct and carry out risk assessments
• develop safe systems of work
The programme includes:?
• Health and safety at work act 1974 ?
• PUWER / LOLER (use of work equipment)
• COSHH (use of chemicals and substances)
• Management regulations (risk assessment)
• Noise and vibration
• Manual Handling
• RIDDOR (reporting of accidents)
• Road traffic
• Children in agriculture
• Practical risk assessment and safe systems of work
• Summary and further action
Cost: The course fee will be £100 plus vat

Employment Legislation
We have arranged for Sue Whitmore to deliver this on Tuesday 17th April 2012.
The event will provide an overview of the current legislation and will include an update of the most recent changes and how they will potentially impact on our sector.
The details of the event are as follows:

Business owners and those having responsibility for recruiting and managing staff.
Course Objectives:
At the end of the workshop participants will have:–
• an understanding of current employment legislation, including recent changes
• considered how to effectively manage disciplinary situations
• an opportunity to discuss the wider implications of the legislation in the agricultural and horticultural business
Content will include:
• Agency Workers' Regulations and what this may mean to your business.
• Working with the Default Retirement age.
• Dismissal & disciplinary including how to carry out a disciplinary investigation.
• Pensions Bill 2011
• Working Time Regulations: sick leave & holidays.
• Other hot topics in employment law.
• Round table discussion on current HR issues.
• Brief overview of how employment legislation impacts on recruitment, employment and termination.
Cost: The course fee will be £110 plus vat and will include lunch
BRC Evening
Louise Manning has kindly agreed to present this evening event.
The date has been set for the evening of Wednesday 18th April 2012 and will be held at The Stables, Canon Frome, near Ledbury starting at 19.30.
Members involved in Packing and processing will be aware of the BRC Global Standard. Issue 6 of the BRC Global Standard for Food came into operation in January 2012. This evening meeting will discuss the key changes in issue 6 and what these could mean in practice for food manufacturing and packing operations. This will be an ideal forum to share thoughts and information on the changes.
